NYSC members abandon election duty in Suleja

National Youth Service Corps members in Suleja local government area of Niger State refused to turn up for electoral duty during the presidential election.

Bomb explosions in the town caused deaths and injuries on the eve of the April 9 National Assembly election. No serving corps member was killed.

The Corpers were apparently playing safe in case another bomb attack occurred.

The action of the Corpers was said to have delayed accreditation and voting. INEC in Suleja was however able to deploy ad-hoc staff for the voting.

Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the state, Dr. Emmanuel Onucheyo confirmed the boycott by NYSC members and admitted that it caused the delay in voting in the area.
