Embattled Single Mothers in Kyrgyzstan

After divorce, women in Kyrgyzstan often lose any claim on property and the family home, despite their entitlements under the law. Left with the children to care for, they have few resources to fall back on. 

The country has few women’s crisis centres or shelters, among them one run by the Sezim group in Bishkek, which has more applicants than it can deal with.

The second report in the series looked at kindergartens that fall below generally accepted standards.

The audio programme, in Russian and Kyrgyz, went out on national radio stations in Kyrgyzstan, as part of IWPR project work funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
