Elections: Publisher Remains Underground

Publisher and Editor-In-Chief of Desert Herald newspapers, in Kaduna, Mr. Tukur Mamu has for the fifth-day running, continued to stay underground in order to evade police arrest.

Mr Mamu is believed to have run into troubled waters following critical reports by his newspaper against some highly placed politicians.

Sources in the newspaper said the police are probably acting on complaints by politicians claiming to be offended by his reports. The allegation has not been independently verified.

As of yesterday however, about seventeen policemen, some in plain-clothes were said to be occupying the newspapers’ premises in Unguwan Sarki, area of Kaduna, Kaduna State.Desert Herald is reputed for its tough stand on issues. Mamu had been arrested and released by the Police at least five times in the past couple of months.
