In June, IWPR’s coverage of the arrest of former Bosnian Serb security chief Stojan Zupljanin – then one of four remaining war crimes suspects on the tribunal’s wanted list – prompted enquiries from a number of local and international media.

Roknic reported on the unusual circumstances surrounding Zupljanin’s arrest by Serbian police in the town of Pancevo near Belgrade (See: Zupljanin Arrest Revelation).

In his article, Roknic revealed that police sources suggested they were also on the trail of another war crimes indictee before Stojan Zupljanin’s arrest. The following month, Karadzic was arrested.

Zupljanin, who had remained a fugitive for almost eight years, attempted to escape being sent to face justice in The Hague by claiming police had collared the wrong man.

Crucially, Roknic revealed in his article that police sources suggested they were also on the trail of another war crimes indictee.

The following month, Karadzic was arrested.

Following Zupljanin’s capture, the project was approached by Radio Netherlands Worldwide, the Dutch newspaper Volkskrant, as well as several media outlets in Bosnia for comments – confirming IWPR’s position as an authoritative source.
