50 election observers arrested

It has emerged that about 50 election observers were arrested in Jos, Plateau State, during the Presidential election on Saturday.

Their vehicles and other property were impounded by security agents.

The arrests of members of the Transition Monitoring Group, also known as TMG, was condemned by the organization’s Coordinator of Election Observers, Mr. Samson Itodo. He said those arrested were fully accredited by INEC, to monitor the polls. The TMG is made up of civil society groups with over 800 election monitors deployed across the volatile Plateau state for the election.

A source at the Criminal Investigation Department, of the Nigeria Police in Kaduna confirmed the arrest.
