Iraqi soldiers file out of a bullet-scarred house after a raid in Mosul.
Most raids happen in the dead of night and catch insurgents unaware and
off guard as they sleep. This house had a small cell of bomb-making insurgents,
with one standing guard at all times. After the gate outside the house was
breached, the insurgent on guard opened fire with an AK-47 and shot the
first soldier through the door twice in the arm. The rest of the soldiers
filled the house with gunfire, killing the insurgent. They quickly streamed
into the house and detained the rest of the cell, discovering bomb-making
materials, explosive manuals, and several AK-47's. |
